The Volga – an inscrutable blue route of unhurried movement. It flows from wooden churches through the meanders of mosquito-infested backwaters, Russian towns and cities, sacred forests, and the remnants of Volga Bulgaria, all the way to white chalk buildings, cliffs and ravines, dilapidated marinas, and grand Soviet hydroelectric power plants. Tatar huts and apiaries on one bank, multi-story developer-built buildings on the other. Kazan, Samara, Yoshkar-Ola, Naberezhnye Chelny... This is where Europe truly ends, and in the Volga melting pot, dozens of cultures, histories, and beliefs intermingle.

Konstanty Usenko, whose roots trace back to Kozmodemyansk in the autonomous Republic of Mari El, takes us on a journey through the peripheries of Europe, without abandoning his musical fascinations. The rhythm of the route is set by ancient pentatonic melodies mixed with electronic Soviet industrial sounds, and the magical journey to the source is accompanied by the atmosphere of a waking dream.

The charts of the middle Volga waves are a daring example of punk ethnography and a new wave artist's confession of faith, attempting to piece together his nomadic identity.
