Andrzej Sosnowski

Some may associate the author with one or another poetry book – unfortunately, over time he was afflicted by that annoying (reportedly common at a certain age) plague of reminiscences, which he resisted by shunning poetry, so that autobiographical elements would not overwhelm the verses. When the sentimental impulse sought an outlet in sentences resembling prose, the shoddiness of memories and "recollections" proved depressing – some of them tried to find their place near other, slightly less intrusive elements.

To wake up one more time; to get up after eleven, light a cigarette, return to bed at ten to twelve, doze a little, dream a little, faintly hearing the bells. Then, Valium. Brandy with water, a wave: "Emerge in invisible territory." A long red wall. A dog. Probably carrion, not a dog. Wejsuny. Sleep on, until four PM. Drink some white wine, get dressed and go outside, sit somewhere. Smoke and breathe. Drink a beer. Breathe deeply. Do some shopping and go back. Drink at home; around midnight – "Hello, Sister Midnight?" – enter a state of perfect calm. Cool euphoria. Continue.
