It's not easy to encourage reading an almost debut book at a time when perverted solace after the torments of writing comes from the evening reading of David Lehman's *The Last Avant-Garde*—a text that clearly suggests something has ended and won't begin again anytime soon, especially in poetry. Nevertheless, Piotr Makowski's gesture should be received with hope, if only because the author has found his starting point, which means he knows what he's aiming for. Moreover, these texts sound somehow endearing and unique. Their world is familiar, populated rather typically, yet Makowski manages to defamiliarize the whole thing and present it with grace. Something healthy pulsates here and counts on our cooperation.
