Solarises

Marcin Mokry's new book was published in October 2025 by the Tymoteusz Karpowicz Foundation.

Mokry creates what could be called a "post-industrial solar-punk idyll"—a hybrid of despair and desire, where the landscape is made of scars and fiber optics, and hope pulsates in the breath of co-presence.

It is a poem that functions as an ecopoetic laboratory of memory and future. Its language shatters linearity, using repetitions, gaps, and deformations that reflect the struggle in a post-catastrophe world: ecological, technological, and familial. Hope in this record does not appear as a utopian horizon but as a movement of language that constantly attempts to capture the future—unfulfilled, but possible. Solarpunk in his version is not a joyous utopia but a recycling of ruins: lamps growing from the earth, fiber optic grindstones, a landscape covered in plastic and ash. In turn, the traditional idyll is shattered—nature speaks with a voice distorted by industry, remembering pain and violence. The poem reveals that we live in an era where hope can only take on a flickering form: as a common call, as tenderness in the ruins, as a solar flash in the darkness.

Marcin Mokry, born in Gliwice, poet, designer, and animator of literary life. He graduated in philosophy in 2006 from the University of Silesia. Since 2015, he has been the curator of the literary stage at the Slot Art Festival. In 2017, he published his first poetry book "czytanie. Pisma" (reading. Writings) (edited by J. Kornhauser), recognized as "one of the most original debuts of recent years." In 2019, he published his second experimental poetry book "Świergot" (Chirp) (edited by K. Siwczyk), in which "poetry blossoms in moments of extreme reduction and disappearance of language in favor of an inhuman, all-encompassing noise (like from Levinas, but also Celan)." The book was nominated for the Gdynia Literary Prize. Since 2020, he has been a collaborator of the Centre for Avant-garde Research at Jagiellonian University. For his third book, "żywe linie nowe usta" (living lines new mouths), published in 2022 (D. Kujawa), he received the Wiesław Kazanecki Literary Prize. In addition to writing, he is involved in designing and producing films. Since 2019, together with Karolina Wiśniewska, he has been implementing the cultural and social initiative "Dings," which involves co-designing with residents a "sylva"—a subjective atlas of their place of residence. He lives in Rachelanach, near Sejny.
