Ryszard Grzyb was born in 1956 in Sosnowiec. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1981. From 1982 to 1992, he was a member of Gruppa. He was a co-founder and publisher of Gruppa's magazine – "Oj dobrze już" (Oh, it's good now).
His paintings are held in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków, Poznań, the Zachęta Gallery, District Museums in Katowice, Bytom, Toruń, Bydgoszcz, Olsztyn, and in private collections in Poland and abroad. He is a laureate of the Jan Cybis Award 2010.
Alongside his painting, he also engages in poetic work, having debuted during his studies in Wrocław. His texts were published in "Nowy Wyraz" (1980, 1981), "Miesięcznik Literacki" (1981), in the magazine "Oj dobrze już," in the publication Sztuka Najnowsza. Co słychać (Contemporary Art. What's New) (Warsaw 1989), and Young Poets of a New Poland (London 1993), as well as in the art magazine "Tytuł roboczy" (Working Title) (2004). His Zdania Napowietrzne (Aerial Sentences) were published by Świat Literacki (Literary World) (2005). Okruchy melancholii (Fragments of Melancholy) (Twórczość 2015, no. 1).
