Hop! Hop! Hop! A Treatise on Solitude

Tamara Bołdak-Janowska

One of the most distinctive voices on the map of Polish literature returns. “Hop! Hop! Hop! A Treatise on Solitude” by Tamara Bołdak-Janowska is a collection of poetic texts whose genre weight can either delight – or overwhelm with an excess of forgotten tropes and poetic devices not seen in Polish lyric poetry for a long time. “A generational peer of New Wave poets, Bołdak-Janowska ignores their evolution, rejects late global elegance, returning to the starting point – to freedom from political mental and linguistic enslavement, to the cult of the concrete, to the material dimension of real existence. Not even Wat exhibits such fury,” writes Adam Pomorski in the afterword to the book.

Tamara Bołdak-Janowska (1946) – prose writer, poet, essayist, translator. Author of over a dozen books, including "This Story is Simply Too Fast, Who Can Endure It", "Naive Tales", and "Polish and Non-Polish Rhythms". Nominated for the Cogito Award (2008) for the poetry collection "Chapters". Finalist for the Nike Award for her prose "Things That Make Life Pleasant. Utopia" (2010). Sometimes publishes under the pseudonym Tamara Be Jot.
