Render and Other Poems

The collection "Putzlaga and other poems," published by the Tymoteusz Karpowicz Foundation, consists of several dozen texts. The level of complexity is usually inversely proportional to their length. This presented book is the author's literary debut. The significant span of time, places, and circumstances in which these poems were created, as well as the people and topics they touch upon, means that in terms of style, theme, intellect, or even topography, they are often quite distant from each other, sometimes even clearly contradictory. This can be considered a great advantage of this book. The less complicated poems are mostly digressive and narrative in nature and can be considered stories with a beginning, development, and end. Despite the simplicity of the means used, they shy away from obtrusive punchlines or moralizing. The medium-length poems are the most diverse – from short observations and impressions, often absurd or humorous, through dream visions then subjected to the rigor of rational description and transferred to an already very real environment (this method, despite its simplicity, has for centuries surprised with the vitality of its results!), to more personal, emotionally charged works, showing the spiritual and material dilemmas of the lyrical subject, his fascinations, hopes and fears, as well as interests in pop culture (especially music and sports). The shortest poems often take the form of two- or several-line "condensates," a kind of compressed information. Due to their ambiguity and susceptibility to numerous interpretations, they can be considered the most hermetic. Fortunately, there are not too many of them in this volume.

Grzegorz Hetman, born in 1978, lived in Lubin until his high school graduation. He lived in Wrocław from the beginning of his studies at the Institute of Polish Philology. At the same time, he worked as a proofreader in many Polish publishing houses. He was one of the founders of the literary quarterly "Red.", where from 2006-2008 he was in charge of the poetry section and conducted literary criticism (he also published texts of a similar nature in "Odra," "Topos," "Twórczość," and "FA-art," among others). Since 2011, he has been a proofreader in the Polish translation department at the Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
