Lower Silesia. I Remember the Flood

The book "Lower Silesia. I Remember the Flood" and the accompanying film are the result of the year-long cultural project "Lower Silesia. I Remember the Flood" implemented by the Tymoteusz Karpowicz Foundation with the "Memory and Future" Centre. In 2017, the project implementers visited several towns in Lower Silesia, where they conducted field research, met with residents, and collected audiovisual materials. Bielawa, Brzeg Dolny, Dzierżoniów, Głogów, Jeszkowice, Kamieniec Wrocławski, Kłodzko, Legnica, Łany, Nowa Ruda, Pieszyce, Rzeczyca, Ścinawa, Świdnica, Świebodzice, Wrocław. They visited most of these places multiple times.

They worked not only statically but also on the move: on Lower Silesian Railways trains, where, on selected routes, memories of the flood were collected and interviews with passengers were recorded, transforming their journeys into more than just moving between stations. In 37 branches of the Municipal Library in Wrocław, containers for memories were placed, where for many weeks anyone could share their own flood-related "I remember that...".

Essays, dozens of memoirs, three diaries, a reportage, a short story, a film script, an interview, graphics, archival photos, a photo report – the 1997 flood has never been told this way before.
