Not, however, to keep them for himself and take possession of them, but to listen to them, nourish them, and care for them, and then – a little different, slightly altered – to release them into the world,” writes Piotr Bogalecki in his editorial review, announcing the new book by the Wrocław critic. “The Benefactor…” is simultaneously a treatise on the poems of Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki and a philosophical essay on the gift of modern poetry, and partly also a liberatic experiment that stems from post-secular thought, donational reflection, and a desire to reread the work of the author of “Dzieje rodzin polskich” (Histories of Polish Families) once again – as a common linguistic good. The critic was thus accompanied from the outset by the following questions: is lyric poetry a gift?; does poetry divide us, or do we divide it among ourselves?; is a proper name (idiom) truly proper, or rather given, and thus common?; and finally: what does it mean to give and receive a poem?
